About Us at Living on the Hedge
The Living on the Hedge Team are Elle and John Anderson – providing Landscape, Tree and Gardening Services.
Elle loves gardening and helping you create great spaces for you to enjoy your garden in while John is an ace at making sure your tree is dropped and mulched in a safe and clean way.
Elle and John say “We moved to Taumarunui because the Whanganui Awa (river) has captivated Elle ever since she made contact with it.” John was born in Taumarunui and has a deep love of the place and its people.
Elle is originally from Holland and moved to New Zealand in 1981. Her love for the New Zealand countryside is evident when you talk to her, see her gardening or view her art. It is New Zealand she calls home now after 38 years.
John was born in Taumarunui, but left as a 5 year old to travel around New Zealand with his parents. Study and several years working and living overseas has now seen him return back to Taumarunui.
They also say : “We both enjoy the quieter life that this district offers us now, our 2 boys have grown up and it was time for us to do what we wanted to do. Moving here means living closer to the land and closer to nature in many ways.”
Through our property and work we engage with nature every day in a variety of ways and love it.
Elle is also an accomplished artist and has exhibited New Zealand wide and has many pieces in collections in New Zealand and around the world.
Elle has worked in the landscape industry for over 30 years. From owning her own landscape design business in Palmerston North, gardening & designing in the wider Auckland area to lecturing in a landscape design diploma during these 30 years.
John with Chipper
John is a fully qualified Quality, Health & Safety Manager. His expertise lies in site management, systems development, environmental planning and H&S for sites. He has worked nationally and internationally for major construction corporations. He brings with him safe site practices from over 20 years of working on different sites. This business provides John with a change of scene from the corporate world he has worked in for the last 30 years. Enjoying being practical and hands on while dealing with the individual and not a big company is what also appeals to him.
We’re all so happy with the professional job you & John did, it was a great day – so lovely meeting you both.

I just spent the weekend at Owhango and the grounds were looking spectacular…best they’ve looked ever!
It was so nice to be able to spend some time at the property relaxing without the burden of having to get out into the gardens.

Hi Elle and John – thank you so, so much for what you did yesterday for us – the driveway looks so much better and the back yard is transformed already !
I couldn’t believe how you have created a “tree” out of what was just a big chunk of greenery before – I know it sounds very naive of me but I would never have imagined that there was a shape underneath it !
It has opened up that whole corner, created a place for shade, made an exciting forest for the children to play in and is such an inviting view from further away. Plus it will be so easy to pick up the fruit ! Thank you so much !!!

Just want to thank you for coming to Owhango today. You helped me get my enthusiasm back. I can’t wait to get started now. In fact I have already started. After talking to you I realised that I wasn’t thinking big enough!! I am looking forward to working with the both of you.
For hedge trimming, shrub & tree pruning and other tidy up jobs around my gardens and grounds, Elle & John have been superb!! Their horticultural knowledge and skills have efficiently made my place looked cared for again They have also given me advice on how I can better manage my big section. Cheers to you both.
